A huge sacred precinct dedicated to the god Amun at ancient Thebes (now
Luxor), built and extended over more than 1,500 years by more than
thirty pharaohs. The central hypostyle hall, raised by Seti I and
Ramesses II, holds 134 papyrus columns up to 23 metres tall. It is the
largest religious complex built in antiquity and the second most visited
place in Egypt, after the pyramids of Giza.
