Oil on canvas, 205 × 200 cm, painted by Joaquín Sorolla in 1909 on the Cabanyal beach in Valencia. It shows his wife Clotilde and their eldest daughter María walking with parasols in the late afternoon. The Mediterranean light (clear, tinted violet and pink) is Sorolla’s signature, along with his command of open air and of the blue of the Mediterranean. It hangs in the Museo Sorolla in Madrid, the house and studio where he lived.
