Gothic · chronological order 4

Also known as The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, an altarpiece of twelve panels painted in oil on both sides for Saint Bavo’s Cathedral in Ghent, Belgium. Hubert van Eyck started it and his brother Jan finished it after his death. It is the high point of Flemish Gothic and the grand debut of oil painting. Stolen and recovered several times, and still one panel short (The Just Judges, gone since 1934).
