Portal of the house of the marquises of Dos Aguas, right in the centre of Valencia, made between 1740 and 1744 when the third marquis rebuilt the family palace. It is alabaster, carved like an altarpiece: two giants standing for the rivers Turia and Júcar pour their water either side of the door, and above them, in the niche, is the Virgin of the Rosary.
In Valencia they say the man who drew it, Hipólito Rovira, ended up losing his mind; stare at the portal for a while and you see where the legend comes from. The façade around it was redone in the nineteenth century and the building now houses the González Martí National Museum of Ceramics and Decorative Arts, with a room of old carriages on the ground floor.
