Show the style

Impressionism, Iron Architecture · chronological order 9

Iron and glass greenhouse that Ricardo Velázquez Bosco put up in 1887 in Madrid’s Retiro park, in front of a pond with swamp cypresses growing out of the water. It was meant to show plants from the Philippines at a colonial exhibition; when the show closed, the building stayed.

It is one of the Reina Sofía Museum’s exhibition venues and one of the most photographed corners of the park. Inside there is nothing in the way: just the structure, the light and whatever each artist decides to hang.
