Alphonse Mucha, 1896

Show the style

Art Nouveau · chronological order 10

A series of four lithographed decorative panels (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter) published by the Champenois printing house in Paris. Each season is a young woman in a landscape to match, laid out with the decorative composition and the plant arabesques that would define Mucha’s Art Nouveau. Made for middle-class homes, they were sold singly, as a horizontal strip and as a 2×2 grid. Mucha reused the format in several later series (The Flowers, The Arts, The Times of the Day).
