Classical · chronological order 2

Roman aqueduct built under Vespasian or Trajan to bring water to the city of Segovia from the Fuenfría spring, 17 km away. The monumental stretch in town crosses the Azoguejo square with 167 arches in two tiers of granite laid without mortar, held up by the pressure of the blocks alone. It is one of the best preserved Roman aqueducts anywhere and stayed in use until the 19th century. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
